Using my finger i felt the inside of the female side (slave cylinder) the retaining clip has a very sharp edge. The plastic ford slave cylinders are hardly renowned for their longevity. I left from the place it was repaired at and 2 days later it was getting hard to shift, then the pedal dropped to the floor, this is when i found out about the dreaded plastic clip ford (along with some gm and chrysler) has that attaches the clutch pedal.

When i attempted to connect the new hydraulic line to the new slave cylinder it would not connect. The clip is called a quick release line clip. Installed everything inside the bell housing and bolted up the tranny.

I forgot about it until i sold. This video demonstrates the proper techniques for disconnecting and connecting the clutch hydraulic line at the concentric slave cylinder. When installing a new assembly, the plastic retainer straps should remain in place on the slave cylinder, to ensure that the actuator rod seats on the release fork pocket upon installation.

Recently my wife was driving it and had a problem with the clutch. This is a retaining clip for the 2005+ s197 or s550 ford mustang. If reinstalling an assembly, be sure to position a new plastic retainer strap onto the end of the pushrod and attach the straps to the cylinder.

No pressure no pedal until we finally figured out the new retainer clip was not holding it in place correctly. Ford does not sell these by themselves and you will have to buy an entire slave cylinder assembly if you happen to lose a clip while replacing your hose.
